When Salvatore first introduced his name to me, I was intrigued by how...long his name is (12 syllables in total, 12!). His first name is from his grandfather, the first middle name is his maternal grandfather's and the second middle name is his uncle's - something that does not exist in my culture, I could not help but wanted to learn more about the rich Italian culture. It is indeed much more than just cuisine and high fashion.
1. The Name
Salvatore was named after his grandfather: Salvatore, who moved to Canada in the ‘40s bringing with him a wealth of tradition and love. Nonno (Grandfather) Salvatore along with all other immigrant parents and grandparents helped building and shaping Canada into the nation it is today.
Like many immigrants in Canada, Nonno Salvatore and his family faced many levels of hardship and discrimination. Despite the challenges of building a new life in a foreign land, the family have managed to work hard and keep their family-oriented traditions alive.
His children and grandchildren have been influenced by this strong work ethic and cultural heritage. They have grown up with a strong sense of family and community, and have inherited the values of hard work, determination, and resilience from their parents and grandparents.
Salvatore carries the name of his grandfather proudly with a sense of pride and admiration for his grandparents and all the sacrifices they had made to give their family a better life in Canada. Just like his grandparents, he has the same relentless work ethic. He is still firmly grounded by his Italian roots, speaking his language proudly and enjoys the classic Italian cuisine with family and friends whenever he can.
I enjoy his family Sunday dinner, the homemade pasta to be specific. The aroma of fresh tomato, basil and garlic would waft through the house. I must agree with Sal, pasta is the quintessence of life!
Spending time with Salvatore and his family inspired me to create a piece of furniture that show cases the exquisite craftsmanship, the value of hard work and the refinement of simple good materials - just like a pasta dish.
2. The Design
The headboard: Inspired by Salvatore and his Italian heritage, I wanted to design a headboard that is classic yet modern, luxurious yet humble, loud yet quiet. Tufted headboard was my first choice. Tufted headboard considered elegant and classic for a few reasons. First, the tufting technique itself creates a plush and sophisticated look, adding visual interest and texture to the headboard. Additionally, the tufting can add dimension and depth to a headboard, making it stand out as a focal point in a bedroom. The style of tufted headboards also often has a timeless, classic look that can fit in seamlessly with a variety of decorating styles. However, tufted headboard seems to be outdated, traditional diamond tufting can make the space look crowded and busy. After a few prototypes, we finally landed on channel tufting with a modern twist.
All of the elements of the bed were designed to be sturdy and durable yet comfortable and inviting, making them ideal for the modern home. The Salvatore Collection embodies these timeless design principles and is one of my proudest creations that the team and I get to share with the world.
This iconic bed is made for the modern home where practicality meets style to create a chic ambience that transforms a house into a home.
The style: Like some of our most iconic beds and dressers, Salvatore is a perfect marriage between Mid-century Modern and Scandinavian style. Both styles are famous for their minimalist and functional design. Unlike other styles of furniture, which can be overbearing and cluttered, the Mim Concept on which the Salvatore bed is built is clean and streamlined. This makes it perfect for small and large areas, as it allows for.
In recent years, mid-century modern and Scandinavian styles are enjoying a resurgence in popularity thanks to their timeless appeal and ability to blend seamlessly with various decor styles.
The Salvatore bed is perfect for modern, minimalist spaces, where its clean lines and simple form help to create a sense of order and balance. It also works in more traditional settings, where its sleek, modern aesthetic adds a touch of sophistication and elegance.
3. The Make
Italian leather craftsmanship is renowned for its quality and durability, making it a popular choice for furniture. From sleek and modern sofas to traditional and elegant armchairs, Italian leather furniture adds a touch of sophistication and luxury to any space.
The process of creating Italian leather furniture begins with the selection of high-quality raw materials. Italian leather is typically made from cowhide, although the hide of other animals, such as lamb, goat, and buffalo, can be used. The hide is tanned using natural processes, such as vegetable tanning, to preserve its natural beauty and texture.
Once the leather is tanned, it is cut into shapes and sewn together to create the finished product. Italian leather artisans are known for their attention to detail and use traditional techniques, such as hand-stitching, to ensure that each piece is of the highest quality.
In addition to its durability and quality, Italian leather furniture is known for its style and sophistication. Italian designers are renowned for their attention to detail and use of bold colors and patterns to create unique and stylish pieces.
Italian leather craftsmanship is a testament to the country's long tradition of producing high-quality furniture that is both functional and beautiful. Whether you are looking for a classic and timeless piece or a more modern and contemporary design, Italian leather furniture is a luxurious and enduring choice.
An Eye for Detail
When you take a closer look at a Salvatore bed, you can immediately discern the influence of the Old World intricately woven into the beautiful frame.
One of the key features of our mid-century modern beds in the Salvatore Collection is the use of natural materials. The Salvatore bed is made of solid wood, with tapered legs and a simple, rectangular headboard covered with premium leather.
These materials add warmth and texture to the design and help create a sense of comfort and relaxation.
Quality Across the Board
In addition to its simplicity and functionality, Scandinavian-style furniture is also known for its high quality. The Nordic countries have a long tradition of carpentry and woodworking, and this expertise is evident in the construction of Scandinavian furniture.
Using high-quality materials and careful craftsmanship ensures that Scandinavian furniture is durable and long-lasting. This means you can enjoy your furniture for many years without worrying about it falling apart or losing its aesthetic appeal.

4. Incorporating the Salvatore Collection into Your Home
Adding an elegant mid-century bed into a contemporary bedroom can be a great way to add a touch of vintage charm and sophistication to your space. Whether you're a fan of mid-century design or want to experiment with different styles, there are plenty of ways to make a mid-century bed work in a contemporary setting.
Dressing It Up
One option is to create a cohesive mid-century look by pairing your bed with other mid-century furniture and decor items. This could include one of our lovely dressers, nightstands, or a nice armchair in similar styles paired with a statement light fixture or area rug with bold, geometric patterns.
You could also introduce mid-century colours, such as shades of teal, mustard yellow, and burnt orange, into your bedding and other textiles to complete the look.
Tapping Into the Mid-Century Vibe
Another way to incorporate the Salvatore bed into a contemporary bedroom is to mix and match it with contemporary pieces. This can create an eclectic, bohemian vibe that feels fresh and modern.
For example, you could pair a mid-century bed with a contemporary nightstand and a mid-century dresser or different patterns and textures in your bedding and other textiles. This approach allows you to combine the best of both worlds and create a space that reflects your personal style.
If you're unsure how to get started, consider choosing a colour scheme that unifies mid-century and contemporary elements. This could include using patterns and colours typical of mid-century design, along with clean, modern lines and neutral tones.
You could also add a few plants or other natural elements to the space to help bring a sense of warmth to the room.
The key to integrating a mid-century bed into a contemporary bedroom is to be creative and have fun with it. Don't be afraid to experiment with new styles and textures, and don't shy away from vibrant colours.
With a bit of planning and attention to detail, you can create a space that feels like home. So, if you want to add vintage glamour to your bedroom, consider including a mid-century bed and see how it transforms your space.
Caring for Your Scandinavian-Style Salvatore Bed
Mid-century furniture is a beautiful and timeless addition to any home. A Salvatore bed will keep its beauty and elegance without much maintenance. However, as with any investment, taking care of your Salvatore bed is essential to maintain its charm.
Consider the Main Materials
One of the most important things to consider when taking care of mid-century furniture is the materials it is made of. The Salvatore bed is made of walnut wood, a durable and long-lasting material, although it can get scratches, dings, and other damage if not correctly cared for. Avoid placing hot objects directly on wooden surfaces, as this can cause discolouration or damage.
Maintaining the Perfect Finish
Another important aspect of caring for mid-century furniture is cleaning and maintaining the finish. Keep your bed in pristine condition by cleaning it regularly with a soft, damp cloth.
Avoid using harsh cleaners or abrasive sponges, as these can damage the finish and leave your bed dull and lifeless. If your furniture looks dull or scratched, consider refinishing it with a new coat of varnish or lacquer.
Protection From Direct Sunlight
It is also vital to protect your mid-century furniture from direct sunlight and other sources of heat and moisture. While natural lighting is essential to a nice ambience, too much exposure can cause wood to fade and crack and damage fabrics used in mid-century furniture.
To protect your furniture from sunlight, consider using blinds or curtains to block the sun's rays. You should also avoid placing your furniture near heat sources, such as radiators or fireplaces, as this can cause the wood to dry out and become brittle.
Taking care of your mid-century furniture is an investment in the long-term enjoyment of these beautiful pieces. By following these simple tips and techniques, you can keep your furniture looking its best for years.
